Would you like to do something rewarding and exciting? Are you friendly, helpful and proactive? Would you like a chance to develop your own skills while helping other people?
We welcome applications, calls and enquiries from people from all backgrounds including anyone who identifies as D/deaf or disabled. We are always open to discussing the roles and making reasonable adjustments were required.
The Albany and Entelechy Arts are looking for volunteers for Meet Me at the Albany, a weekly arts club for the over-60s. Our volunteers help vulnerable and isolated older people reconnect with their communities as they chat, have a meal, and engage in creative activities.
Meet Me at the Albany is a pioneering concept to help reduce isolation and improve well-being through high-quality artist-led sessions. We offer a wide range of activities to participants, including sculpture, printing, spoken word, movement, singing, and much more. Find out more about it at this link.
Our team of volunteers get involved in all or some of the following activities, according to personal interest and skills:
- empowering participants to make choices regarding art and creative activities and listening to their feedback
- supporting participants as they engage in arts and creative activities which are run by professional artists
- engaging participants in additional activities, such as gardening
- meeting, greeting and welcoming people as they arrive
- helping participants socialise by befriending
- helping serve lunch and refreshments
- helping people to their transport.
Currently the Meet Me programme takes place in person and on the phone. Meet Me at the Albany happens in person on Tuesdays between 10:30am to 2:30pm as well as on the phones as part of the Cluster calls on Monday and Wednesday afternoons. You can also get involved with Meet Me on the Move and Meet Me at the Movies and many other events and activities that pop all over Lewisham and London. We are looking for people who are able to commit for a minimum of six months, although flexible arrangements are possible.
Volunteer development
Volunteers are integral to the success of Meet Me at the Albany and to recognise their commitment, we invest in our volunteer team through regular training and development. If you are looking to develop your career, volunteering for Meet Me at the Albany is a great way to grow your confidence and develop new skills that are valuable both on a personal level and in the workplace. Our volunteers also learn about the arts, make new friends and have fun.
We can reimburse local travel expenses.
Please note that volunteers will need to apply for an Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check, which we can support with.
